The registry is one aspect of windows system that I would advise one to stay away from. As an experienced windows user since the inception of windows 3.0, I still make some oversight mistakes when editing the Registry. I recently made some Registry Entries on my XP and I forgot to close some of the entries and it resulted into numerous blue screen episodes that made me to do a restore point. Thanks to a Registry tool that made it the restoration easier, I would have crashed the system if I have done it manually!
Every version of windows, though lauded for their improved performance and functionalities, have more complex and larger Registry repository. This is to cater for these improved functionalities and upgrades. You will notice a quantum increase in computing resources today as memory hungry program abounds, with heavy graphics and video services in attendance. Their incessant increase in invalid entries in the windows Registry attests to this. There is also increase in the hard disk space requirements for operating systems couple with the increase in user applications and newer and improved version of existing software. This put demand on your Registry that keeps track of these updates and entries. Now, large chunk of these updates and their registry entries over time becomes redundant or invalid in the Registry database thereby compromising your windows performance.
These put more demand on the computing resources for more processing power, rugged and versatile memory for loading and managing these programs in real time. You can cut the cost of additional processor and or memory upgrade with Proper registry management. This will go far in optimizing your system.
There are abound many registry software optimizer/ cleaner today, however it is not enough in fine tuning your PC. Registry problems and errors are unavoidable, but there are other means of fine tuning your system which will listed and explain briefly below
